Welcome! My name is Rabbi Liora Alban and I currently work as a rabbi and educator who is excited to meet you. I am a California native and an alumnus of NFTY, Gindling Hilltop Camp, URJ Camp Newman, and NFTY in Israel. I earned my bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley. While I was an undergraduate student, I participated in Berkeley Hillel and directed Kol Hadov, the university’s only Jewish a cappella group. Once graduating, I moved to Jerusalem to begin rabbinical school at Hebrew Union College. I was ordained as a rabbi with a master’s degree in Jewish education and a graduate certificate in Jewish nonprofit management in May of 2020 and have since served congregations across California.
I aim to enrich others’ lives by helping them find meaning, joy, and beauty in Judaism. In particular, I enjoy teaching Judaism through various artistic lenses. I have created arts-based workshops and programming, including an arts-based teen curriculum on the Five Megillot which I have adapted and implemented in multiple settings. I enjoy showing people how they can strengthen their Jewish identity and nourish their Jewish community by utilizing the creative and authentic qualities that make them unique.
In my free time, you can catch me heading to the beach, visiting art museums, and trying new restaurants. I enjoy doing all of this with my husband, Rabbi Daniel Freedman, and our dog, Rexy. I look forward to working with you to strengthen and enliven the Jewish community!
